William Hill plc is one of the largest bookmakers in the United Kingdom. Its land based operation is headquarters in the United Kingdom and its online properties headquarter in Gibraltar. It is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: WMH) and is part of the FTSE 250 Index.

History

The Company was founded by William Hill in 1934. It changed hands many times and was acquired by CVC Capital Partners in 1999. In 2002 the company was first traded on the London Stock Exchange.
William Hill acquired Sunderland Greyhound Stadium and Park Greyhound Stadium in 2002 and 2003.
The 2005 acquisition of betting offices in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and Jersey from Stanley Leisure for £504 million took the company past Ladbrokes as the largest betting company in UK.
Long time employee Ralph Topping was name Chief Executive of William Hill in 2008.

Operations

William Hill operates in the UK, Ireland and in 2008 the company opened retail chains in Madrid, Spain under the name “Victoria.” The company offers retail betting locations, betting by phone and via the internet.
William Hill’s 2300 retail shops process over one million betting slips each day and can process over 600 telephone calls simultaneously. The company’s online operation offers online casino, online poker, skill games and online bingo. The internet section extends over 175 countries, six languages and 11 currencies.
The poker room promotes the William Hill Poker Grand Prix and its annual William Hill Sports Book of the Year award.
William Hill is the title sponsor of the Málaga CF football team in Spain, extending strong gaming presence at Málaga's home ground, La Rosaleda.
